Routine water testing is the best way to make sure the well water you’re drinking is safe. Even better, installing a whole house water filtration system will make your well water taste and smell better. However, there may be some instances when you need to break from your normal water testing routine. Carter Quality Plumbing wants you to watch out for these four common signs that you need to call for immediate water testing:

  1. You notice a strange taste, appearance, or smell to your water – Water that tastes bad, smells odd or looks cloudy should be avoided. Whenever you notice these changes in what’s coming from your tap, get your water tested. More importantly, don’t drink it.
  2. You think you have corroding pipes – If you know your pipes are corroding, it might be a good idea to test your water. Often, lead and other minerals from your water can lead to pipe corrosion. If these substances are inside your pipes, it’s highly likely you’re drinking them, too.
  3. You seem to have soap lathering problems – Is it harder than normal to get soap to lather up in the shower or sink? Have you noticed that your clothes and towels are rough to the touch after they’re washed? This is a sign of hard water, meaning you may have an excess of minerals in what’s flowing from the tap. A water test can tell you for sure.
  4. You’re experiencing health issues – If it seems like the stomach bug won’t leave your house, it may not be a virus. There could be contaminants in your water like coliform bacteria. Lead can also cause serious health problems. Call for water testing to be completely certain that your water supply is safe.
